Umrah From Pakistan: Visa, Operators and Costs
Umrah from Pakistan is nearly always booked through a company rather than arranged alone, and that single fact shapes everything else: the visa comes with the booking, the price depends on who the company buys from, and your protection depends on whether that company is properly registered.
This guide sets out how the route generally works for a Pakistani passport holder, what to verify before paying, and where the money goes. Rules for Umrah operators and for Saudi visas are set by the authorities in both countries and are revised from time to time. Confirm anything time-sensitive with the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony in Pakistan and with the official Saudi channels before you commit.
How the visa usually works
Pakistani passport holders do not normally use the self-service online tourist visa route that is open to some other nationalities. The usual channel is a visa arranged through an approved Umrah company or through the official Saudi channels, which is why the visa and the package tend to arrive together.
What that means for you in practice:
- The company files the application against your booking, using your passport and photograph.
- Your dates are tied to the booking more tightly than they would be on an independent visa.
- If the visa is refused, what you get back depends on the written terms you signed, not on goodwill.
Eligibility lists and channels change. Before you accept anyone's description of the rules, check the current position on the official Saudi portal and on the visa summary for Pakistani passport holders. Our wider Umrah visa by country guide explains how the different channels work, and the Nusuk visa and permit guide covers what happens once you are in the Kingdom.
Checking the operator is registered
This is the step most worth your time. Umrah companies operating in Pakistan are expected to be registered with the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, and that registration is the first thing to verify. A company that cannot produce its registration details, or becomes vague when asked, has answered the question.
Run these checks in order.
- Ask for the registration and the company's legal name. Then check it against the ministry's own published information rather than the company's brochure.
- Check the office exists. Visit it if you can, or ask someone locally to. A mobile number and a social media page are not an office.
- Ask who the Saudi partner is. The hotels, transport and ground handling are supplied by a provider in Saudi Arabia. A company that will not name its partner may not have one confirmed.
- Get everything in writing. Hotel names, distances, nights in each city, room occupancy, flights, and the cancellation policy.
- Pay the company, not a person. Payment into a personal account is the single most common feature of Umrah fraud. Keep every receipt.
- Ask past travellers. Not the testimonials on the website. Actual people from your own area who travelled last season.
Our operator checklist covers the same ground in detail, and Umrah scams and how to avoid them lists the patterns that repeat every season, including the group that is told at the airport that their visas never existed.
What actually moves the price
We do not publish prices for Pakistan, because they move with the exchange rate, the season and the airline market, and a stale figure would mislead you. What does not change is the list of things that determine the number you are quoted.
| Driver | Effect | What to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Season | Largest swing of all. Ramadan, especially the last ten nights, and school holidays are the peak | What would the same package cost in a quiet month? |
| Hotel distance | The main difference between two quotes in the same month | Which hotel, by name, and how long is the walk to the gate? |
| Room occupancy | Quad, triple, twin. Often the hidden reason a quote looks low | How many beds, and who shares? |
| Nights and split | A shorter trip is cheaper, not better value | How many nights in Makkah, how many in Madinah? |
| Flights | Direct versus one stop, and which departure city | Which airline, how many stops, what baggage? |
| Exchange rate | Costs in the Kingdom are in riyals, so the rate at the time of payment matters | Is the quoted price fixed, and until when? |
That last row matters more from Pakistan than from most places. Ask whether a quoted price is protected against currency movement and for how long, and get the answer in writing. Umrah packages explained covers what should be inside the price, and cheap Umrah packages: what to check explains where a low quote usually finds its saving.
Departure cities and flights
Direct flights to Jeddah and Madinah run from the main Pakistani cities, and a one-stop routing through the Gulf is often cheaper. The right choice depends on who is travelling more than on the fare.
- Direct is worth paying for with elderly parents, young children or anyone who struggles with long days. See travelling with elderly and disabled pilgrims.
- One stop is usually cheaper, and fine if the layover is short and at a civilised hour.
- Into Madinah, out of Jeddah saves repeating the intercity journey. Our Makkah or Madinah first guide covers the order, and the transport guide compares the train, coach and car.
- Ihram on the flight. If you fly straight to Jeddah intending Umrah, you normally need to be in ihram before the aircraft passes the miqat. Read miqat for Umrah and ask your operator how they handle it, especially on a routing with a stop.
City summaries are available for the main departure points, including Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad.
Documents and health
Have these ready before you approach a company, so nothing waits on paperwork.
| Item | Note |
|---|---|
| Passport | Valid comfortably beyond your return. Check the required margin rather than assuming |
| Photographs | Recent, to the specification the application requires |
| CNIC and family documents | Companies commonly ask for identity and relationship documents for family bookings |
| Vaccination records | Saudi health requirements for pilgrims are set by season. Check the current list with a doctor and the official source |
| Written agreement | Hotels, nights, room type, flights, terms, signed and kept |
Name spelling is worth one careful minute. The name on the ticket, the visa and the passport must match. Fixing a mismatch close to departure is expensive and sometimes impossible.
When to book
For Ramadan, book months ahead. The last ten nights are the busiest and most expensive period of the year in Makkah, and late bookings there tend to mean a distant hotel at a peak price. Our Ramadan Umrah guide explains what the crowds are actually like.
For quiet months, several weeks is usually enough, and prices are far lower for the same hotel. If you are flexible, ask a company to quote the same package for two different months and let the gap make the decision for you. The full sequence of what to do when is in the planning timeline.
Mistakes that cost families money
- Paying in cash with no receipt. If it is not documented, it did not happen when a dispute starts.
- Accepting a hotel described only as "near Haram". Get the name and check the walk yourself. Our hotel distance guide explains why this matters more than a star rating.
- Booking through a relative's contact without checks. Trust is not registration. Verify anyway, politely.
- Leaving the visa question vague. Ask exactly which route is being used and what happens if it is refused.
- Ignoring the permit system. Some things inside the two holy mosques are booked in the official Nusuk app and are free. Read the Nusuk app guide before you fly.
- Underestimating the physical load. Tawaf and Sai in a crowd are demanding. Health and safety tips covers preparation, heat and the essentials.
A booking checklist
- Verify the company's registration with the ministry, not just its brochure.
- Get hotel names, walking distances and room occupancy in writing.
- Confirm the number of nights in each city.
- Confirm the flight routing, airline and baggage allowance.
- Ask which visa route is used and what happens if it is refused.
- Ask whether the price is protected against currency movement, and until when.
- Pay the company, never a personal account, and keep receipts.
- Check passport validity and name spellings against the ticket.
- Check current health requirements with a doctor.
- Install the official Nusuk app and set up your account before departure.
If you would like independent operators to quote against your dates, hotel distance and room type so you can compare like with like, request free quotes. First-time pilgrims should start with the first-time Umrah guide, which sets out the rites in order before any of the booking decisions above.
