Flying from Karachi

Karachi has one of the largest and most mature Umrah travel industries anywhere outside Saudi Arabia, with Jinnah International Airport running frequent nonstop flights to both Jeddah and Madinah on PIA, Saudia, and local carriers, especially during Ramadan and the Hajj season when capacity expands significantly. The scale of the market is generally good for pilgrims, since competition is real, but it also means quality varies widely, and it is worth checking that any agent is registered with Pakistan's Ministry of Religious Affairs Hajj and Umrah scheme rather than relying on a shopfront alone. Karachi's climate is hot and humid for much of the year, so factor that into packing and hydration planning before a long flight. The Pakistani rupee is used locally; money changers near travel districts are common. Given high demand, book well ahead of Ramadan and peak Umrah season, when both fares and hotel rates in Saudi Arabia rise sharply.

Umrah visa for Pakistanis

Pakistan is not on Saudi Arabia's eVisa list, so Pakistanis normally cannot self-apply online for Umrah. The route is a licensed Umrah company, or an external agent contracted through Nusuk Masar, which books the visa with an approved hotel and transport package as one file, not a visa alone. It must be used within 30 days of issue, so confirm dates with the operator first. Many Pakistanis abroad in the Gulf instead perform Hajj and Umrah through their country of residence rather than Pakistan. Holders of a valid, used US, UK or Schengen visa, or GCC residents, may instead qualify for the eVisa or visa-on-arrival route, so ask the operator to check. For the 1448 AH Umrah season (31 May 2026 to 7 Apr 2027), start several weeks ahead, since checks move faster the earlier you begin.

When to go

Ramadan carries the greatest reward and the greatest crowds and prices; the weeks after Hajj (late Dhul Hijjah into Muharram) and the winter months (November to February) are cooler and quieter. The 1448 AH season runs from 31 May 2026 to 7 April 2027 for arrivals and departures. See the best time to perform Umrah.
