Umrah from Sydney
What pilgrims leaving from Sydney need to know: the flight, the visa route for Australians, the season and a realistic budget.
Flying from Sydney
Sydney has Australia's largest and most diverse Muslim community, with strong Lebanese, Turkish, South Asian, and Afghan representation, and Sydney Airport offers extensive one-stop connections to Jeddah and Madinah through Gulf hubs, which run some of the world's longest ultra-long-haul routes to get there, so expect a demanding journey regardless of airline. A scheduled nonstop flight from Sydney to Saudi Arabia is not currently available. Sydney's Umrah travel trade is Australia's largest and most established, with agencies serving the city's various Muslim communities across the western and southwestern suburbs in particular. Australian dollars are used locally. Given the length of the journey, build in a stopover or at least significant rest time before starting rituals on arrival, especially for elderly or young travellers. Local mosques across Sydney's Lakemba, Auburn, and Bankstown areas are a strong source of trusted operator referrals. Book well ahead of Ramadan and school holidays.
Umrah visa for Australians
Australian passport holders are on Saudi Arabia's eVisa list, so most Australians can apply directly through Nusuk or Visit Saudi rather than use an agent. The eVisa is multiple-entry, valid a year, covers Umrah as well as tourism, and allows up to 90 days per entry. It must still be used to enter within 30 days of issue, and hotel and transport now have to be booked inside Nusuk before it is issued. For the 1448 AH Umrah season (31 May 2026 to 7 Apr 2027), book early, since rooms and Rawdah or Mataf permit slots fill fast around Ramadan. Australians who prefer a fully organised trip can still book the same journey through a licensed Umrah company instead.

When to go
Ramadan carries the greatest reward and the greatest crowds and prices; the weeks after Hajj (late Dhul Hijjah into Muharram) and the winter months (November to February) are cooler and quieter. The 1448 AH season runs from 31 May 2026 to 7 April 2027 for arrivals and departures. See the best time to perform Umrah.
What it costs from Sydney
Your biggest variables are the flight from SYD, the hotel's distance from the Haram, and the season. Use the cost calculator for a range in AUD, then compare operator quotes line by line: visa, flights, hotel nights and category, transfers, and Makkah, Madinah transport.
Umrah from Australia: what applies from every city
Australian passport holders can apply for the Saudi tourist eVisa themselves on visa.visitsaudi.com or in Nusuk and perform Umrah on it outside the Hajj season, so no agent is required for the visa. What still costs money and effort from Australia is the flight: there is no scheduled nonstop service, so every itinerary connects once, usually through a Gulf or South-East Asian hub, and total journey times are commonly 18 to 22 hours. Most families therefore buy a package for the flights, the Nusuk hotel bookings and the transfers, and apply for the eVisa themselves or let the operator do it. Prices are driven by the fare, the season (Ramadan and the Australian school holidays are the peaks), the hotel's distance from the Haram and how many people share a room. We explain each driver in Umrah cost from Australia, and the visa steps in the guide for Australian passport holders.
