Flying from Perth

Perth has a smaller but well-established Muslim community, with diverse roots across South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, and Perth Airport offers one-stop connections to Jeddah and Madinah through Gulf hubs, with Perth's relative proximity to the Middle East actually making these connections somewhat shorter than from Australia's eastern cities. There is no scheduled nonstop flight from Perth to Saudi Arabia. Perth's Umrah travel trade is smaller than Sydney's or Melbourne's, so many pilgrims compare options with agencies in the larger eastern cities before booking, though local operators are capable and well practised. Australian dollars are used locally. Given the long overall journey, build in rest time before starting rituals on arrival. Local mosques across Perth, including some of Western Australia's oldest, are a reasonable starting point for operator referrals. Book well ahead of Ramadan and school holiday periods for the best fares and hotel availability.

Umrah visa for Australians

Australian passport holders are on Saudi Arabia's eVisa list, so most Australians can apply directly through Nusuk or Visit Saudi rather than use an agent. The eVisa is multiple-entry, valid a year, covers Umrah as well as tourism, and allows up to 90 days per entry. It must still be used to enter within 30 days of issue, and hotel and transport now have to be booked inside Nusuk before it is issued. For the 1448 AH Umrah season (31 May 2026 to 7 Apr 2027), book early, since rooms and Rawdah or Mataf permit slots fill fast around Ramadan. Australians who prefer a fully organised trip can still book the same journey through a licensed Umrah company instead.

When to go

Ramadan carries the greatest reward and the greatest crowds and prices; the weeks after Hajj (late Dhul Hijjah into Muharram) and the winter months (November to February) are cooler and quieter. The 1448 AH season runs from 31 May 2026 to 7 April 2027 for arrivals and departures. See the best time to perform Umrah.

What it costs from Perth

Your biggest variables are the flight from PER, the hotel's distance from the Haram, and the season. Use the cost calculator for a range in AUD, then compare operator quotes line by line: visa, flights, hotel nights and category, transfers, and Makkah, Madinah transport.

Umrah from Australia: what applies from every city

Australian passport holders can apply for the Saudi tourist eVisa themselves on visa.visitsaudi.com or in Nusuk and perform Umrah on it outside the Hajj season, so no agent is required for the visa. What still costs money and effort from Australia is the flight: there is no scheduled nonstop service, so every itinerary connects once, usually through a Gulf or South-East Asian hub, and total journey times are commonly 18 to 22 hours. Most families therefore buy a package for the flights, the Nusuk hotel bookings and the transfers, and apply for the eVisa themselves or let the operator do it. Prices are driven by the fare, the season (Ramadan and the Australian school holidays are the peaks), the hotel's distance from the Haram and how many people share a room.
