Flying from Manama

Manama offers one of the shortest and most convenient Umrah routes in the region, with Bahrain International Airport running frequent nonstop flights to Jeddah and Madinah on Gulf Air and Saudia, and many Bahraini residents even choosing to drive across the King Fahd Causeway into Saudi Arabia and onward to Makkah and Madinah by road as an alternative to flying. Bahrain's Umrah travel trade is well developed, and given the short distance, some residents perform Umrah several times a year. The Bahraini dinar is used locally, one of the higher-valued currencies in the world, worth factoring in when comparing costs across packages quoted differently. Bahrain's climate is hot and humid for much of the year, broadly similar to conditions in Jeddah, so the climate adjustment is minimal. Given the causeway option, it's worth asking any local agent whether a road-based itinerary might suit your trip better than flying, particularly for larger family groups.

Umrah visa for Bahrainis

As GCC nationals, Bahrainis do not need a Saudi visa at all for Umrah; a valid national passport or ID is enough to cross the border, the same citizen arrangement in place for years. Hotel and transport bookings inside Nusuk are compulsory for most pilgrims but not Bahrainis, though using Nusuk to secure Mataf and Rawdah time-slot permits is still strongly advised, since those crowd-management slots increasingly apply to everyone. For the 1448 AH Umrah season (31 May 2026 to 7 Apr 2027), Bahrainis can largely travel on their own schedule, though booking a hotel near the Haram early stays wise, since rooms sell out fast in peak weeks.

When to go

Ramadan carries the greatest reward and the greatest crowds and prices; the weeks after Hajj (late Dhul Hijjah into Muharram) and the winter months (November to February) are cooler and quieter. The 1448 AH season runs from 31 May 2026 to 7 April 2027 for arrivals and departures. See the best time to perform Umrah.

What it costs from Manama

Your biggest variables are the flight from BAH, the hotel's distance from the Haram, and the season. Use the cost calculator for a range in BHD, then compare operator quotes line by line: visa, flights, hotel nights and category, transfers, and Makkah, Madinah transport.

Bahrain to Makkah by road

Driving is a real option from Bahrain and many families prefer it. You cross the King Fahd Causeway into Saudi Arabia near Dammam and continue through Riyadh and Taif to Makkah, roughly 1,300 kilometres, which is a full day's driving with stops; most people break the journey in Riyadh or Taif. Coming from the east you pass the miqat of Qarn al-Manazil (al-Sayl al-Kabir) on the Taif road, so plan to be in ihram before that point and read where to enter ihram. Check that your car insurance covers Saudi Arabia, carry the vehicle registration, and remember that the Umrah permit in the Nusuk app is needed whether you arrive by air or by road. The alternative is the frequent nonstop flights from Bahrain International to Jeddah and Madinah on Gulf Air and Saudia, which suit short trips of three or four days.

Umrah visa from Bahrain: citizens and residents

Bahraini citizens need no visa: they enter Saudi Arabia on their national ID and book the Umrah permit in Nusuk. Residents of Bahrain who hold another passport follow the route for that passport: citizens of eVisa countries apply online themselves, and other nationalities apply through a licensed Umrah operator with a Nusuk booking. GCC residency in some professions can open the tourist eVisa or visa-on-arrival route, but eligibility changes, so check it on visa.visitsaudi.com before you pay anyone. Pick your passport on the visa by nationality pages for the exact steps.
