Flying from Hong Kong

Hong Kong has a small but well-established Muslim community, with roots among South Asian, Indonesian, and Chinese Hui Muslims, and pilgrims here connect through a Gulf hub rather than flying nonstop, since Hong Kong International Airport has no scheduled direct route to Jeddah or Madinah. Hong Kong's Umrah travel trade is modest, centred partly around the city's historic Kowloon Mosque, and serves both local residents and the large population of Indonesian and Filipino domestic workers, many of whom are Muslim and send remittances home partly to fund pilgrimage for family members. Given the city's role as a major transport hub, some pilgrims also compare routing through Kuala Lumpur or Jakarta given Hong Kong's strong connectivity to Southeast Asia. The Hong Kong dollar is used locally. Hong Kong's subtropical climate is hot and humid for much of the year, a reasonable preview of Jeddah's coastal heat. Book well ahead given the smaller local market's more limited package options.

Umrah visa for Hong Kong residents

Hong Kong residents hold an eVisa-eligible passport, so in the 1448 AH season (31 May 2026 to 7 April 2027) they can apply online for the Saudi tourist eVisa through Visit Saudi or directly on Nusuk and use it to perform Umrah outside the Hajj season. The visa must be used to enter the Kingdom within 30 days of issue, and Umrah and Rawdah permits are booked in the Nusuk app after arrival. Many Hong Kong residents still prefer a licensed Umrah company for hotels and transport; if you do, make sure the company is contracted through Nusuk Masar. Rules change quickly; confirm on visa.visitsaudi.com before paying anyone (as of September 2026).

When to go

Ramadan carries the greatest reward and the greatest crowds and prices; the weeks after Hajj (late Dhul Hijjah into Muharram) and the winter months (November to February) are cooler and quieter. The 1448 AH season runs from 31 May 2026 to 7 April 2027 for arrivals and departures. See the best time to perform Umrah.
