Umrah from Dubai
What pilgrims leaving from Dubai need to know: the flight, the visa route for Emiratis, the season and a realistic budget.
Flying from Dubai
Dubai is one of the world's busiest aviation hubs and a highly convenient Umrah departure point, with Dubai International Airport running frequent nonstop flights to both Jeddah and Madinah on Emirates, flydubai, and Saudia. Given Dubai's enormous expatriate population, particularly from South Asia and elsewhere in the Middle East, the city's Umrah travel trade is huge and highly competitive, serving both Emirati citizens and the much larger resident expatriate workforce who often perform Umrah multiple times during their time in the country. The UAE dirham is used locally and is pegged to the US dollar. Dubai's climate is extremely hot and humid for much of the year, similar to Jeddah's coastal conditions, so the climate adjustment is generally minimal. Given the sheer number of operators in Dubai, it's worth checking a company's Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing licensing before booking. Book ahead of Ramadan when demand and fares both rise sharply.
Umrah visa for Emiratis
As GCC nationals, Emiratis do not need a Saudi visa at all for Umrah; a valid national passport or ID is enough to cross the border, the same citizen arrangement in place for years. Hotel and transport bookings inside Nusuk are compulsory for most pilgrims but not Emiratis, though using Nusuk to secure Mataf and Rawdah time-slot permits is still strongly advised, since those crowd-management slots increasingly apply to everyone. For the 1448 AH Umrah season (31 May 2026 to 7 Apr 2027), Emiratis can largely travel on their own schedule, though booking a hotel near the Haram early stays wise, since rooms sell out fast in peak weeks.

When to go
Ramadan carries the greatest reward and the greatest crowds and prices; the weeks after Hajj (late Dhul Hijjah into Muharram) and the winter months (November to February) are cooler and quieter. The 1448 AH season runs from 31 May 2026 to 7 April 2027 for arrivals and departures. See the best time to perform Umrah.
What it costs from Dubai
Your biggest variables are the flight from DXB, the hotel's distance from the Haram, and the season. Use the cost calculator for a range in AED, then compare operator quotes line by line: visa, flights, hotel nights and category, transfers, and Makkah, Madinah transport.
Umrah visa from Dubai: citizens and residents
Emirati citizens need no visa; they enter Saudi Arabia on their national ID and book the Umrah permit in Nusuk. For the far larger number of residents, the visa depends on the passport, not on UAE residency. Citizens of eVisa countries (including the UK, most of Europe, the US, Canada, Australia and others) apply online themselves on visa.visitsaudi.com or in Nusuk; nationalities not on that list, including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and the Philippines, apply through a licensed Umrah operator that files the visa with a Nusuk hotel and transport booking. GCC residency in some professions can open the eVisa or visa-on-arrival route, and holding a used US, UK or Schengen visa can too, so check the eligibility list on the portal before paying an agency. The visa fee and insurance are set by the Saudi government and shown on the portal at payment; quotes for "visa cost from Dubai" that are much higher usually bundle the hotel booking and a service fee, so ask what is included. The permit itself is booked in the Nusuk app. See the visa by nationality page for your passport.
Before you book

- Confirm the hotel name and distance, not just "near Haram".
